I’m considering the merits of setting up a local (ie Ballarat) portal  system, very much in line with the famous Craig’s List. It would be a little bit of work technically, but really not that much. Something like http://www.everything-ballarat.com.au
It’d be both an interesting project, as well as a potential source of advertising revenue, at least enough I think to recoup server costs etc.

Any thoughts?
